The number of children in Ukraine for a quarter century, halved

The child population in Ukraine for a quarter of a century has almost halved. About it writes RIA Novosti with reference to the Plenipotentiary of the President of Ukraine for children’s rights Nikolay Kuleba.


 


As stated Kuleba at the conference in Kherson, over the years of independence the number of children it has halved and currently stands at 7.6 million.


 


According to him, today Ukraine is on the 186th place in the world for fertility. As for the rate of extinction of the nation, here the Square holds the 13th place.


 


Almost 106 thousand children, says the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on the rights of the child, living and growing up in orphanages and boarding schools. Moreover, only 8% of them are orphans, others have parents. As noted, every day 250 children determine to boarding schools because of the family’s poverty and inability of parents to give the child the necessary.


 


Still more than half a million minors living in dysfunctional families, these children, as says Kuleba, are potential pupils of boarding schools. In addition, he said, one in eight children suffered from military operations in the Donbass.
