German intelligence did not present a single fact about Moscow’s intervention in the election campaign in Germany. On Wednesday, August 30, said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, reports RIA Novosti.
“If we talk about facts we know, some time ago it became clear that the German Chancellor was tapped by American intelligence services. I don’t remember about this established fact the German counter-intelligence said something,” said the Minister.
Lavrov suggested that in this way the exploration of Germany “wants to prove its effectiveness”.
On 27 August, the head of the German Federal office for the protection of the Constitution (counterintelligence) Hans-Georg Oil said that the Russian intelligence services are highly active in Germany and can try to influence the forthcoming elections to the Bundestag (Parliament). According to the official, Moscow is able to organize a disinformation campaign with the help of cyber attacks. “The likelihood of this scenario is high,” he said.
March 30 was reported in Germany to establish a Cyber and information command with its headquarters in Bonn. The structure is created pursuant to the decisions of NATO and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called the protection of Germany against cyber attacks one of the main priorities. As the main enemy is considered Russia, which is believed in Berlin, trying using propaganda and disinformation to destabilize German society.
