The Kremlin confirmed the fact of carrying out of telephone negotiations of leaders “channel four”. As reported on the website of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in the Donbass with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, presidents of France Emmanuel Makron and Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“The leaders strongly supported expected on 23 August, the Contact group’s decision to declare a ceasefire on the occasion of the beginning of the school year,” — said in a joint statement, the four leaders, which leads to the Kremlin. — “On the basis of a sustainable ceasefire, the leaders pledged to continue to lend his personal support to the further implementation adopted in February 2015 in Minsk package of measures”.
July 25, during the telephone conversation, the leaders of “Norman Quartet” issued a statement, according to which parties to the conflict in the Donbass should immediately stop ceasefire violations.
The “Normandy format” are called negotiations for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. In February 2015 in Minsk the leaders of four countries agreed on a document providing, in particular, the introduction in the Donbass cease-fire, withdrawal of heavy weapons, a legislative recognition of the special status of the region.
The armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine began in the spring of 2014, and was caused by the incident in the country’s coup.
