TASS, August 20. Yekaterinburg is “most appropriate” city in which the Russian capital could be moved from Moscow, said a member of the High Council of party “United Russia”, Director of the Agency for political and economic communications Dmitry Orlov.
Only the Supreme Council of the party, its governing body, responsible for strategic development, included 90 people.
“Moscow is far away from the geographical center of Russia, and its development leads to hypertrophy of the Moscow Metropolitan area (from over-concentration of tax revenues to overpopulation),” wrote policies in Facebook. In his view, these reasons are weighty enough to start a “serious discussion” about moving the capital.
“The most appropriate solution would be to Yekaterinburg and a part of the Metropolitan functions could be delegated to a few cities,” said Orlov, stating that assesses the likelihood of realization of these plans as low.
