Russia has opposed the strengthening of economic pressure on North Korea
MOSCOW, 16 Aug — RIA Novosti. Moscow will not support ideas aimed at the economic strangulation of North Korea, said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The UN security Council adopted on 5 August a new resolution calling for restrictions on imports of coal, iron ore and seafood from North Korea after two tests in July of ballistic missiles, which, according to Pyongyang, can fly to the United States. According to the calculations of Americans, the full implementation of sanctions against the DPRK would reduce the annual foreign exchange earnings in Pyongyang, components now about $ 3 billion, one-third.
“We cannot support the ideas that some of our partners continue to hatch, and which is literally aimed at the economic strangulation of North Korea with all the negative, tragic humanitarian consequences for the citizens of the DPRK. We believe that in all resolutions of the UN security Council, which has already introduced drastic measures of economic impact, contained obligations of the UN security Council to continue to support the process of returning to political negotiations,” Lavrov said at a press conference.
