Scammers have found a new way to extort money from users of WhatsApp

Scammers have begun sending emails to users WhatsApp messenger dummy messages with the request to renew the subscription. This is stated in a press release from the company ESET, arrived in edition “Tapes.ru”.

The attackers appear to be employees of the messenger and asked to enter payment information, and otherwise threaten to limit access to WhatsApp. As tricks they use false information about the existence of a trial period.

For the alleged payment, the user is invited to click on a phishing link and enter your Bank card details on a fake website. After that fraudsters are stealing money from the victim’s account.

WhatsApp really used the pay model use messenger, but abandoned it in January 2016.

In March, experts have discovered another trick of cyber criminals: they were circulated among WhatsApp users malicious links under the guise of a “spy” application designed to spy on friends. The link to the service that allegedly can monitor the activity of friends, in fact led to a fake website with malware.
