VTSIOM: the majority of Russians in favour of youth participation in politics, but not in rallies

The majority of Russian citizens (90%) believes that young people should participate in public and political life of the country, with 62% against its participation in rallies and demonstrations. This is evidenced by the results of a survey released on Tuesday by the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).

“Request for involvement of young people in public and political life in our society is formed: it is fixed at 90% of Russians – in comparison with 2007 (75%), this share has increased markedly,” – said in the message. Agree with this statement more than 80% of respondents in all age groups.

According to the study, the Russians favour the participation of young people in different types of political activities: voting in elections (67%), discussion the political situation in private conversations and participation in activities of socio-political organizations (46%), discussion the political situation (44%). The participation of young people in rallies and demonstrations was supported by only slightly more than a third of respondents (38%). At least the Russians support the participation of youth in political parties and in elections as candidates (37%). Only 3% of respondents said they do not consider it necessary to attract young people to participate in the political life of the country.

The initiative Russian opinion “polls-Sputnik” held on 20-21 June 2017. The sample size of 1,200 respondents, the maximum error with 95% probability does not exceed 3.5%.
