Police use pepper spray against Saakashvili supporters

Several of Saakashvili's supporters felt bad about the rally near the courthouse in Tbilisi who gathered for a rally near the building of the Tbilisi City Court, where the trial of the politician began. This was reported by Novosti-Georgia.

About a thousand people attended the rally. Several participants climbed onto the roof of the security booth, waved flags and refused to obey the police, who used the spray.

Several opposition supporters fell ill. They were assisted by ambulance doctors. One of the victims lost consciousness. Georgia Online reports that it was a cameraman.

Several more people were detained, including former Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava, Sputnik Georgia reports.

Saakashvili is accused in the case about the dispersal of a protest rally in 2007. The ex-president said that he did not recognize the prosecution and Georgian justice.

Previously, he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison in other cases. Saakashvili was arrested on October 1 when he returned to Georgia after eight years of emigration.
