The head of the department, Gina Raimondo, said that global trade institutions should support peace, prosperity and well-paid jobs, not risks for national security. According to her, the decision of the Ministry of Trade on sanctions is aimed at preventing the use of American technologies for military purposes in Russia and China. “The Commerce Department is committed to effectively using export controls to protect our national security,” the politician concluded.
