Ukraine wanted to prevent the launch of Nord Stream 2 at full capacity

Ukrainian GTS Operator: there are chances to prevent Nord Stream 2 from being launched at full capacity

Head of Ukrainian GTS Operator “Sergei Makogon said on the air of the 1 + 1 TV channel that he does not want to see Nord Stream 2 launch at full capacity, and there are great chances that this could be prevented from happening. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“We have a valid contract until 2024. We have a vision of how to fight further, and despite the fact that this gas pipeline has already been technically built, I believe that there are still very good chances of not allowing it to run at full capacity, ”Makogon said. He added that gas transit in 2021 decreased three times, and “Moscow returned to the contracted volumes.”

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko said that European companies could leave the purchased gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities (UGS). The matter concerns the creation of a common international gas fund. If such a proposal is developed, then fund participants will be given access to these reserves in crisis situations.
