Activities of the council of compatriots (Consolidation of the Russian ) was terminated due to “unprecedented pressure” from the American intelligence services. This was stated by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, her statement was published on the department's website.

The diplomat pointed out that the pressure of the American authorities is a violation of personal and civil human rights and freedoms in relation to the Russian diaspora, in particular, the rights to preserve national cultural identity and freely maintain ties within the diaspora and with Russia.
Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Washington asked the US authorities to stop the persecution of the Russian diaspora .
Prior to that, it became known that KSORS suspended its activities due to the investigation of the American special services. The decision to close it was made due to the activities of the FBI in relation to KSORS. Throughout 2021, at least 300 Russians in the United States, from students to retirees, were subjected to FBI investigative measures, the council noted.
