In Russia, they wanted to control food prices in a new way

The Federation Council proposed to create a commission for regulating prices for products

products. This proposal was made by Senator Yevgeny Savchenko, RIA Novosti reports.

“I propose to create a commission to develop legislative measures to regulate prices in the domestic market, regardless of changes in world prices,” the parliamentarian said and stressed that often the cost essential goods in Russia depends on external reasons, since the domestic market is poorly protected from global trends. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko has already expressed an opinion that the commission could be headed by the Federation Council vice-speaker Andrey Yatskin.

Earlier in November, the entrepreneur and owner of Crocus Group Araz Agalarov said that it is useless to control food prices in chain stores. According to the businessman, all trading platforms compete with each other and raise prices only because they buy goods from manufacturers at a higher price. Those, in turn, increase the cost of products due to the rise in the cost of transportation and fertilizers.

According to Rosstat, inflation in October reached 8.13 percent in annual terms. Most of all, food prices went up, especially fruit and vegetable products. The rise in food prices, according to the Central Bank, is due to a poor harvest this year. According to the regulator's forecasts, food inflation may continue to grow in the first half of 2022.
