In Russia, for the first time in ten years, the average speed of mobile Internet has decreased

Kommersant: the speed of mobile data transmission in Russia decreased for the first time in 10 years

ten years has decreased. Kommersant writes about this with reference to a study by Telecom Daily.

Now this figure is 21.7 megabits per second, which is almost 3 megabits less than October values. Analysts believe the drop in speed is due to increased traffic. Telecom operators also admit that even with the increase in capacity, their networks do not keep pace with the activity of subscribers.

Market participants warn that further network degradation is to be expected in the future. This situation will develop until free frequencies in the 3.4-3.8 gigahertz range appear to launch the 5G standard.

Earlier it was reported that in 2022 tariffs for fixed Internet access, pay TV and others wireline services can grow by an average of 10 percent. The calculations do not apply to the mobile market. Experts explained this trend by inflation, an increase in equipment prices, the need to fulfill the requirements for storing Internet traffic of subscribers, as well as provide users with free access to socially significant resources. Previously, tariffs rose in price by 12-15 percent annually.

In October it became known that Russians of retirement age in St. Petersburg increased the average traffic of mobile Internet by 60 percent per year. In Moscow, this figure was 50 percent. In the south of Russia, older people began to use mobile Internet on average 34 percent more, while in the east and north of the country the average traffic increased by 46-47 percent.
