Lukashenko and Merkel talked on the phone

President of Belarus Lukashenko and Acting Chancellor of Germany Merkel spoke by phone

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Acting Chancellor Fernando Merkel Monday, 15 November. This was reported by the Pool of the First Telegram channel.

“Lukashenka and Merkel have just talked on the phone,” the message says. In total, the conversation lasted about 50 minutes.

During the dialogue, Lukashenko and Merkel discussed a number of problems, primarily the situation with refugees on the Belarusian-Polish, Belarusian-Lithuanian and Belarusian-Latvian borders. “The conversation touched upon in detail the ways and prospects of solving the migration problem in order to prevent an escalation of the situation at the border,” the Telegram channel notes.

The parties also discussed humanitarian support for refugees through the provision of humanitarian aid. Alexander Lukashenko and Angela Merkel agreed on further contacts to resolve the situation.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Lukashenko and Merkel are ready to talk with each other. Putin stressed that the reasons for the migration crisis do not lie in Belarus, they were created by Western countries. They are both political and military-economic in nature. Putin added that refugees are lured by high social benefits in the EU.

In early November, migrants from the Middle East, who are trying to get into the European Union, pitched a camp in Belarus on the border with Poland and Lithuania. The West accuses the Belarusian authorities of deliberately bringing migrants to their place on airplanes and forcing them to storm the border.
