The head of Naftogaz pointed to the main flaw of Nord Stream 2

The head of Naftogaz called the lack of backup pipes the main flaw of Nord Stream 2

“The main flaw” of Nord Stream 2. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to an article by Vitrenko in the Ukrainian media.

According to him, the Ukrainian GTS is “much more convenient” than the Russian gas pipeline due to the fact that the latter has no reserve pipes. Vitrenko noted that in Ukraine on the main routes there is not one pipe, but several, so there is a reserve. Thanks to this, the operator can monitor the state of the gas transportation system, repair pipes at certain sections and at the same time not stop transit, the head of the company added.

In addition, Vitrenko stressed that the gas transportation system of Ukraine outperforms Nord Stream 2 due to its convenient location and transportation options. Thus, he said that it is much more convenient to transport gas from fields in Central Asia to European countries precisely through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

Earlier, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin for environmental protection, ecology and transport Sergei Ivanov said that Ukraine is not going to modernize its gas transmission system (GTS), but will use it until this “rusty junk” falls apart. He is confident that this poses security risks. “This rusty junk can explode at any moment, and then what will happen? It has not been modernized for 40 years and will not be modernized. Do you think Ukraine will invest the hryvnia to do something there? No, ”Ivanov said. He also stressed that Nord Stream 2 dramatically improves the environmental situation in Europe.
