Earlier on November 11, Saakashvili's lawyer Nika Gvaramia said that he had decided to stop hunger strike. Interfax reported that the ex-president promised to end the hunger strike as soon as he was transferred to a civilian hospital.

Saakashvili was detained on October 1, when he returned to Georgia after eight years of emigration. At home, the politician was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison. While in the prison in the city of Rustavi, Saakashvili went on a hunger strike. On November 8, he was transferred to a prison hospital in Tbilisi.
