Angela Merkel
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that anti-Russian sanctions will be lifted after the reasons for their imposition. The head of the German government announced at the traditional summer press conference. Her words are reports Reuters.
According to Merkel, the lifting of restrictions imposed against Russia, it is necessary to improve the situation in the South-East of Ukraine. The Chancellor also said that means by this implementation of the Minsk agreements.
On 21 August, the Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov called the good, useful and constructive talks with the special representative of the US state Department in Ukraine with Kurt Volker. According to Surkov, the parties agreed that the current situation in the South-East of Ukraine can not satisfy neither the conflicting parties nor the external forces contributing to the settlement.
The Minsk agreement was signed in February of 2015, members of the “channel four” (the leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine). In the document, in particular, stipulates a ceasefire, the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the holding of elections in the Donbass, and the legislative recognition of the special status of the region.
Western countries constantly impose on Russia responsible for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, as well as linked with it the lifting of sanctions. In turn, Moscow reminds that it is only one of the guarantors of the Minsk process, and not a party to the conflict.
