Tzipi Hotovely

The leadership of the United Nations should change its attitude to Israel, otherwise international organization may lose the support and funding from the Jewish state. This was reported the Deputy head of the foreign Ministry Tzipi Hotovely, reports The Times of Israel.

According to her, this position be conveyed to the UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres during his first visit to Israel, scheduled for next week. “We are committed to a sharp change in the attitude of the UN towards Israel,” said Hotovely. The Deputy Minister noted that this issue it is time to solve at the negotiating table.

Also Guterres will discuss the inclusion in the mandate of the United Nations Interim force in Lebanon of changes concerning the activities of the organization on Israel’s Northern border.

This year the Jewish state has twice announced reductions in the funding of the organization. In January, the contributions were cut by six million dollars in response to 2334 a resolution of the UN security Council demanding that Israel cease construction of settlements in occupied Palestinian lands. In March, the foreign Ministry has reduced payments even two million, citing a series of anti-Israel voting at the meeting of the Council for human rights.

In 2017 the contributions of Israel to the UN will amount to $ 3.7 million instead of the planned 11,7 (this amount covers 0.43 percent of the budget of the organization), wrote in March Reuters. The largest donor are the United States, whose contribution reaches $ 2.6 billion is 22 percent of the budget.
