The leaders of the “Normandy four” held telephone talks
BERLIN, August 22 — RIA Novosti, angelina Timofeeva. The leaders of the “Normandy format” in a telephone conversation supported another truce in the Donbass, said the official representative of the government of Germany Steffen Seibert.
The conversation took place on Tuesday. It was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of France Emmanuel Makron and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“They (the leaders. — Ed.) expressed their explicit support is scheduled for August 23, decisions of the Tripartite contact group to call a truce on the occasion of the school year. The heads of state or government expressed the hope that this truce will lead to a sustainable improvement of the security situation in the interests of the students and the entire civilian population in the Donbass”, — stated in the message.
It is also noted that the leaders of the “Normandy Quartet” have agreed personally to work on the basis of a stable peace on the further implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that the truce in the Donbass can be declared on 25 August or 1 September. The previous ceasefire was introduced on June 24 at the harvest period, until 31 August. However, regular reports of violations of the truce, the sides have accused each other of attacks.
