ERBIL (Iraq), 20 Aug — RIA Novosti. The Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi announced the beginning of military operations to liberate from the terrorists in the city of tall afar — the last major stronghold of militants grouping “Islamic state” on the border with Syria.
“Our dear people, the time has come for the liberation of tal afar”, — he said in a televised statement on Sunday.
According to him, all positions of the Iraqi army “are heading in the direction of tall afar for his release”.
“IG* is either to surrender or die,” — said the Prime Minister.
The Iraqi authorities on 15 August announced the beginning of air strikes on positions of militants in tal afar. The city, located 50 kilometers West of Mosul, is the last major stronghold of terrorists on the border with Syria. Tall afar is mainly inhabited by the Iraqi Turkmen who are Sunni Muslims.
