Scientists will be sent to microorganisms — perhaps algae or bacteria — during the mission “Rover 2020” in an attempt to create air fit for human consumption, reports the Independent.
On the idea of microbes to find nutrients in the Martian soil, and oxygen are distinguished as a by-product.
If the experiment is successful, so Mars will be able to obtain oxygen for people and as rocket fuel for the flight to Earth. This will be an important step towards the transformation of Mars inhabitable human colonies on the planet.
The Martian atmosphere contains only 0.13 percent oxygen compared to 21% on Earth.
The American scientists also has plans to build a magnetic shield around Mars and to establish on the planet a nuclear reactor.
In addition, they hope to launch a space station near the moon, which could serve as a starting point for missions to the other end of the solar system.
Previously, their ambitious plans for the colonization of Mars was voiced by the founder and CEO of SpaceX Ilon Musk.
