BERLIN, TASS,August 15. Foreign Minister of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel has proposed to temporarily postpone the discussion on the status of Crimea and to concentrate on achieving peace in Donbass. The Minister said in published on Tuesday of interview to the newspaper “Kolner stadt-anzeiger”.

“We don’t need discussions about the Crimea, — said Gabriel. — We need to think about how to achieve a truce in the East of Ukraine.” According to the head of the German foreign Ministry, “it is a prerequisite for the gradual removal of tension in relations with Russia.”

The Minister believes that the leader of the Free democratic party (FDP) Christian Lindner, with his call to treat the status of Crimea as a “long-term temporary phenomenon” only wanted to draw attention to himself. “I think that Mr. Lindner wanted to get on the front page of Newspapers,” said Gabriel.

Lindner previously called to consider the conflict over Crimea is temporarily separated from other topics. This, in his opinion, can help to achieve success in other areas in the European-Russian relations, and if this does not work, then sanctions will need to tighten. His words provoked a wide debate in Germany.
