Big Ben “shut up” for four years
The clock tower of the Palace of Westminster, better known as big Ben, “shut up” from August 21 due to repairs. About it reports Reuters with reference to the house of Commons. Work will continue for about four years.
The hammers that were struck nearly 14-ton bell every hour for most of the past 157 years will be disconnected from the clock.
Hear the fight will only be possible in case of important events, for example, during the celebration of the New year.
96-metre high Elizabeth tower, considered the most photographed building in the UK, already half closed forests as part of a major renovation project.
As part of the renovation, for example, will wash and fix the dials of big Ben. Simultaneously closed will be only three and the fourth will show the time, working on a modern motor (the original clock mechanism will return).
Earlier it was reported that in one of the ventilation shafts is planned to install an Elevator for visitors with disabilities and for possible cases of evacuation.
