Moscow will continue to provide Sukhum security and independence. About this Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday, August 8, reports TASS.
“We have a special, very special relations with Abkhazia. We reliably guarantee the security and independence of Abkhazia’s independence. I am sure that this will continue”, — he said at a meeting with Abkhazian President Raul Khadzhimba.
Putin has suggested to a colleague to discuss, in particular, the search for optimum ways of development of the Republic. The negotiations focus on ensuring the safety of tourists. The Russian leader said that Moscow and Sukhumi agreed on the establishment of the clearing house, Ministry of internal Affairs of the two countries.
“I very much hope, hope that this joint work will improve the security of staying here tourists,” he said.
Vladimir Putin arrived in the Republic on 8 August, the anniversary of the beginning of the armed Georgian-Ossetian conflict, after which Moscow recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday that Russia carried out an operation to force Georgia to peace in accordance with the law. He stressed that the country is ready to continue to protect its citizens.
In August 2008, Tbilisi tried to regain control over South Ossetia. The Russian authorities have provided the self-proclaimed Republic military assistance, after which Georgian troops were forced out. After the five-day armed conflict, Moscow recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
