Anthony Macierewicz
The Minister of defence of Poland Anthony Macierewicz accused the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany in collusion, the purpose of which was extermination of poles. With this statement he made on Tuesday, August 1, on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw uprising, according to the portal Do Rzeczy.
“In the history of Poland, Europe and perhaps the whole of Western civilization were not events comparable to the Warsaw uprising. It was a great sacrifice of blood, courage, determination, but she had a terrible price that suffered Warsaw and the entire Polish nation” — said Macierewicz.
He noted that the main purpose of these events was an attempt to restore “an independent Polish state”.”This idea brought people together (…), facing the German and Soviet barbarism. They were forced to fight two enemies at the same time, speaking against the existence of the Polish nation” — said the head of the defense Ministry, adding that the beginning of this story was the conclusion of the Molotov — Ribbentrop Pact.
The Warsaw uprising against the German occupiers took place in Warsaw on 1 August to 2 October 1944. The rebellion, whose goal was self-liberation from the Nazis, organized by the representatives of the exiled government and command of the home army (the armed underground). The uprising was brutally suppressed. The exact number of victims is unknown. According to some estimates, killed 17 thousand participants of the rebellion, in the punitive campaigns killed about 150 thousand civilians.
In 1939, the Soviet Union and Germany signed the Molotov — Ribbentrop Pact, a nonaggression Pact for a period of 10 years. The Pact was supplemented with secret Protocol on the delimitation of spheres of interest in Eastern Europe. According to him, in particular, the West of Poland entered the sphere of interests of Germany, while the Eastern part of the area of interest of the Soviet Union. In 1941, the German side has violated the agreement and attacked the Soviet Union.
