The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the law on security of critical information infrastructure (CII), aims to protect against hacker attacks. Document published on the portal of legal information.
According to the law, the creation and distribution of malware and viruses for cyber attacks on KII will be punished with imprisonment up to ten years. Hacking or illegal access to information stored on the computers of state institutions will entail punishment in the form of compulsory works for a term up to five years of imprisonment up to three years or fine up to one million rubles.
In the case of violations of rules of storage and transmission located in the KII data, which entailed heavy consequences, is also provided for liability: deprivation of liberty from five to ten years and deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions within five years.
It is noted that safety CUES from hackers will be ensured by the security officers and “Federal body of Executive power”.
The law will come into force on 1 January 2018.
