The UN security Council blocked a statement on the shelling of the Russian Embassy in Damascus. It is reported RIA Novosti with reference to the permanent mission of Russia to international organizations.
The project document, the permanent representation circulated among the members of the security Council. It was a “short draft press statement condemning this attack, based on the standard wording of the fight against terrorism and the immunity of diplomatic missions”.
“To our regret I must inform you that some members of the Security Council once again refused to consider the Russian project under the false pretext of lack of evidence of the terrorist nature of the attack,” reads the statement.
At the permanent representation explained that partners in the UN security Council proposed to remove from the draft statement all important provisions, and the Russian delegation considered it useless further work on the document.
“Unfortunately, despite assurances from these parties that fighting terrorism is their priority, they again and again trying to protect those who, as they are probably thinking, can help implementation of the destructive plans in Syria,” — said the permanent representative.
On July 24-25, was another attempt to attack the Russian Embassy in Damascus. Several shells landed near the Embassy. In addition, on 16 July an attempt was made the mortar shelling of the Embassy.
