Vice-President of Iraq thanked Putin for accelerated delivery of weapons
Moscow. July 25. INTERFAX.RU — Vice-President of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki thanked Russia for what she has agreed to accelerate the delivery of weapons previously purchased by this country to fight international terrorism.
“I would also like to place on record its gratitude and its appreciation to you personally and the Russian Federation for the fact that in the moment when we began to be fierce and massive attack with political objectives, and having effects in the region and in the international arena, I mean the fight against terrorism, Russia took an honorable and honest position and agreed to accelerate the delivery of those weapons, about which we agreed earlier,” he said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
Al-Maliki said that his country’s authorities have made progress in the fight against terrorism “on the battlefield”, but Baghdad still needs to make a massive effort to ensure security in the country.
“We have achieved military victories in many regions, particularly in Mosul, but now we need to focus on the successes in the field of security, as it will continue to be attempts by terrorists to attack the civilian population and cities”, — said a senior Iraqi official.
Vice President of Iraq said that the authorities of the country in 2011-2012 by military means failed to defeat terrorism, “however, as long as religious ideas sow discord among Iraqis, all this creates the conditions for the return of terrorism, and that’s what happened in Syria.”
