Russian senators suggested to President Vladimir Putin to limit cooperation with Poland because of the law on the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers. This is stated in the statement adopted by the upper house of Parliament on Tuesday, July 25, reports TASS.

“Please give instructions to the relevant Federal Executive authorities to submit a comprehensive proposal on the possible introduction of restrictive measures in the areas of bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Poland, and also in respect of the Polish Parliament — the initiators of the law,” the document says.

In addition, parliamentarians believe that we need to demand that the Warsaw strict implementation of the Treaty on friendly and neighbourly cooperation of 22 may 1992 intergovernmental agreement on burial sites and places of memory of victims of war and repression.

The Federation Council condemned the deliberate attempts of rewriting of history, distortion and revise the outcome of world war II, undertaken by the Polish authorities. “We must not forget that thanks to the victory over fascism, the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union, Poland survived as a nation and the Polish nation will not be destroyed or exiled and left to live on their land”, — said Russian Senator.

On July 17 the President of Poland Andrzej Duda signed new edition of the law on decommunization involving the dismantling of Soviet monuments throughout the country, including busts and memorial plaques. In addition, provides for the removal of Communist elements from the names of schools and other social institutions, buildings and the public domain. The new rules will enter into force three months after publication of the decree.
