Israel decided to remove the metal detectors at the entrance to the temple mount

Moscow. July 25. INTERFAX.RU — the Israeli Government decided to remove the metal detectors at the entrance to the temple mount, reports The Jerusalem Post.

The authorities plan to replace them with video surveillance system software that can recognize faces. In addition, will increase the number of police around the Temple mount.

On 14 July it was reported that three Israelis were shot and wounded in an attack by gunmen on police officers near the Temple mount in Jerusalem. The police eliminated the attackers. The temple mount was temporarily closed because of security reasons.

Israeli police on 21 July, significantly strengthened security measures in the area of the Temple mount in the Old city of Jerusalem. In particular, the Israeli government gave the police the right to take any decisions necessary for free access to the temple mount. The government, however, agreed with the decision to establish police in the area the metal detector and limit entry to the temple mount to men under 50 years.

In response, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on 23 July announced the suspension of contacts with Israel “at all levels”.
