President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev stated that he is not against the deployment of a second Russian military base on the border with Tajikistan. “Russia is not going to capture our territory, her enough. We risk nothing and we would have to protect themselves, but the decision will be taken by Russia on the basis of their capabilities,” Atambayev was quoted by “Reuters”.
Also the head of the Kyrgyz state said that the construction of the database requires significant financial outlay, so Moscow is unlikely to agree to it, reports “Interfax”.
Atambayev also spoke about Kyrgyzstan from Russia. In particular the President of the Central Asian States noted that in the country from Russia come and will come “thousands of tons of equipment.”
While Atambayev said that the placement in Kirghizia air base of the U.S. air force created a serious threat to the security of the Republic, reports TASS.
“I will not hide that some countries warned us that they are ready if necessary to launch a missile attack on located in our territory the air base of the USA”, – he said. According to him, it was not until until in 2014 the base has not been withdrawn from the country.
Against this background, an agreement was concluded on the Russian airbase in Kyrgyzstan, the term of which the new agreement was reduced from 74 to 15 years.
We will remind, the agreement on creation joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan in 2012 was signed by Vladimir Putin and Almazbek Atambayev. Putin has called the Russian military presence in the region “a significant factor of stability.” In force the agreement came at the end of January 2017.
In late June, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov did not answer the question regarding the rumours about the transfer of Russian military on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
