A court in Azerbaijan sentenced a blogger, Lapshin to three years in prison

BAKU, July 20 — RIA Novosti, Vugar Hasanov. The court sentenced to three years imprisonment arrested in Baku blogger Alexander Lapshin, a citizen of Russia and Israel, reports on Thursday, RIA news from the hall of the Baku court of grave crimes.

At the end of 2016 lapshyn was arrested in Minsk at the request of Azerbaijan, which included him in the “black list” for a visit without the consent of Baku with the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The Prosecutor General of Belarus has decided to satisfy the request of Azerbaijan and to give Lapshin. Earlier the Prosecutor demanded for blogger 6 years and 6 months. Lapshyn pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Baku court on grave crimes on Thursday was sentenced to Lapshin. At the meeting, presided over by judge Alovsat Abbasov, the court sentenced a blogger to three years in prison.

Azerbaijani authorities earlier filed Lapshin accusation under articles “open calls against the state” and “illegal crossing of the state border”.

The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh began in February 1988 when Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous region (NKAR) announced their withdrawal from the Azerbaijani SSR. In September 1991, in the centre of Nagorno-Karabakh Stepanakert it has been declared creation of Nagorno-the Karabakh Republic (NKR). The Azerbaijani authorities during the subsequent military conflict have lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh.
