The head of the Pacific command Admiral Harry Harris at the ceremony said that the new ship is a signal to allies and enemies of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region that America has its interests in this part of the world.

The new destroyer is named after the American seaman John Finn, who defended the base at pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack 7 December 1941. He received 20 wounds, but did not leave the battlefield. For heroism sailor was awarded the medal of Honor, becoming his first knight. Finn died in 2010 at the age of 100 years.
