The Federation Council is concerned about discrimination by the Russian media in the OSCE countries

MINSK, 9 Jul – RIA Novosti. Member of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Nikolay Zhuravlev said that discriminatory attitudes of the authorities of several countries in the OSCE region to the Russian media concern.

“Some countries impede the activities of Russian media in its information space. In the Baltic States documented numerous cases of deportation and a ban on entry for Russian journalists, closed mediaprintablearea, create administrative barriers to effective work. There are also national initiatives to tighten the solution to the Internet with a clear anti-Russian orientation,” — said Zhuravlev said on Sunday in Minsk, during the session of the OSCE PA.

According to him, an example is “the legislative initiative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine aimed at de-Russification of the information space”. “While crimes against journalists remain unpunished,” continued the Senator.

He underlined that in the OSCE region “information policy has come under increasing censorship, subject to sanctions measures is precisely what the Russian media, and representatives of the highest echelons of power in some countries is not even trying to hide such a discriminatory approach.”

“Russia, for its part, has always been and remains at the position of maximum openness. We try to keep the legal balance of freedom of speech and responsibility for the accuracy of the facts. We are categorically against any restrictions and encourage all to strictly adhere to the norms of professional ethics,” Zhuravlev continued.
