In the Kremlin assessed the effects of Ukraine’s accession to NATO

The possible membership of Ukraine in NATO is of concern to Moscow. This was stated press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov on Monday, July 10, reports TASS.

The official representative of the Kremlin said that Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance “could be the next step” to advance the military infrastructure of NATO to Russia’s borders. “[It’s] not, of course, will contribute to strengthening stability and security on the European continent”, — he stressed.

This Peskov said that the question of membership of a neighboring state in the North Atlantic Alliance does not concern Russia directly.

He also commented on the words of President Vladimir Putin at a press-conference on results of the G20 summit that Russophobia is the only item remaining from the Ukrainian authorities. “Meant forcing the > > use of pseudofossils threats (…) as the main lever of pressure and manipulating European politicians”, — quotes the press Secretary of the head of the state RIA Novosti.

Earlier on Monday the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that soon Kyiv would apply for NATO membership. In the beginning of the month the Ukrainian leader has told, that approved the country’s accession to NATO as one of the key factors of government policy.

July 8, Putin on a press-conferences at the summit “Big twenty”, which took place in Hamburg, said that the Ukrainian leadership “has only one item, which they successfully trade — is Russophobia.”
