Ukraine will introduce biometric control for all foreigners
Ukraine will introduce biometric control for all foreign citizens crossing the state border. This was stated by President Petro Poroshenko at the meeting of the Council of national security and defense Council (NSDC) reported on Monday, July 10, on the website of the President.
“We need biometric data, including fingerprints, a digital photograph. This will greatly enhance the possibilities to combat terrorism,” said Poroshenko.
He expressed hope that this initiative will find support in society. According to the President, we are talking about strengthening of control of entry and exit of foreigners and their stay in the country.
The head of state noted that the necessary documents have already been developed. “We’ll take the necessary time in order to get the country prepared efficiently, so that good citizens did not feel any inconvenience,” — said Poroshenko.
He noted that the state border service will allocate the necessary funds for the technical support of the project. Control over execution of decisions entrusted to the Minister of internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.
In June, the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said that the Russians entering Ukraine will have to present a biometric passport. However, he acknowledged that the state border service is not possible to introduce such a restriction, and not to form huge queues at the border. Earlier this month, foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has suggested to create a system by which citizens of Russia have advance notice of the intention to visit the country.
