Russian flood: the largest flood of the XXI century
The damage inflicted element regions of our country.

Stavropol flood
In may 2017 in the Stavropol region was the largest for the last half-century flood. The reason was the heavy rains cleared in time and not rivers. Because of the threat of Otkaznenskogo overflow reservoir was evacuated more than 40 thousand people. According to the MOE, injured about 5 thousand inhabitants, of which about 1 thousand children.
“To say that it’s scary — to say nothing. Houses stand on the roof in the water, the streets flooded, people are in shock. Warm clothes, blankets and baby supplies (diapers, food, diapers),” wrote people in social networks.
Hardest hit were the residents of Mineral Waters, where the water level reached the level of 5.5 m damage from the floods exceeded 2.3 billion roubles.
Soon after the disaster, people began to lump sum compensation — 20 thousand roubles on each family member.
The impact of the floods is still not resolved, and for the strengthening of banks and clearance of channels will need at least 10 billion rubles and several years of work.
Far East
In the fall of 2016 in the Primorsky Krai was the Typhoon “Lionrock”, which caused severe flooding and flooded around 4 thousand houses. Under the water were several villages and settlements. Consequences of doing more than 5 thousand employees of the Ministry of emergency situations, as well as several hundred units of equipment, among which there were 25 aircraft and five drones.

The floods in the far East has happened before. Powerful flood struck the region in the summer of 2013: it led to the most massive flood in the last century. The total area of flooded areas exceeded 8 million sq. km. Liquidation of consequences of elements were involved in more than 300 thousand people, including the military. The total damage was estimated at 527 billion rubles, and the victims were found in about 190 thousand people. As compensation was paid 10 thousand roubles, 100 thousand was given to the people who lost because of the element property. After the flood in respect of a number of officials were prosecuted, one of them in connection with the destruction of the dam Szymanski reservoir, and the second — on the fact of negligence.
Krasnodar tragedy
One of the largest in the last decade floods have occurred in the Krasnodar territory in the summer of 2012. Heavy rains began on 6 July, and for a few hours in Gelendzhik, Krymsk and Novorossiysk fell to a five-month norm of precipitation. The most intensive rain was in the dead of night.
In less than ten minutes the water level rose by several meters, inundating the first floors of buildings.
29 thousand persons have lost property, 1.7 thousand houses were completely destroyed.

Ten years before in Krymsk, there was a great flood that destroyed more than 400 homes and claimed the lives of 59 people. However, the damage from the new disaster was much bigger. The tragedy claimed the lives of 168 persons, 153 of them were residents of the Crimean region.
The floods have also led to environmental disaster. During the rains the river Adagum got the oil from two open reservoirs of “Chernomortransneft”. The damage amounted to about 60 million rubles. In addition, in fact the accident was initiated several criminal cases. In the end, four officials were sentenced to prison terms of three to five years.
Shortly after the tragedy in Krymsk has installed a new monitoring system that automatically sends data about the water level.
Across the district distributed 10 of these gauging stations: each of them powered by solar panels, so in case of emergencies they are fine.
Strike for the South of Russia
In June-July of 2002 affected nine southern regions of Russia. Under the water were 377 settlements. In total from elements has suffered more than 300 thousand people, 114 of them died.
And in 2017, the most difficult situation is in Mineral Waters, where the water level in the river rose 5-6 m above a critical level. Residents were rescued from the elements on the roofs of houses and trees. Flood damage amounted to 16 billion rubles.
The universal flood
A year earlier, in may 2001, the flooding affected the city of Lensk. Residents immediately dubbed this event the universal flood. The city is almost completely washed away by the water: in the early days it was flooded almost 98% of the territory. More than 5 thousand homes were flooded, eight people were killed. Thus in 1998, the Lena has become a victim of the elements. Two ice jams on the Lena river the water rose to 11 m. Almost 100 thousand people were injured, 15 of them died.
