Honored master of sports of the USSR, Soviet hockey player and a Russian coach Boris Mikhailov commented on the message about the death of Vladimir Petrov.
“We were friends for 50 years, but the disease was stronger than his strong character. Gone from the life of my friend, a great hockey player, a decent man, a family man. A great loss for Soviet and Russian sport, because he has done a lot to promote hockey not only in our country but throughout the world”, – said Mikhailov.
“When we played he was the strongest centre forwards not just of his time, he was ahead of time. He has contributed to international hockey as one of the best Central strikers,” he added.
Vladimir Petrov together with Boris Mikhailov and Valery Kharlamov played in a trio, which has made a significant contribution to the resounding victory of the Soviet team.
Starting from 22 may 1992 and on the eighth of April 1994, Vladimir Petrov stood at the head of the hockey Federation of Russia. In 2006 it was introduced into the IIHF Hall of fame.
Vladimir Petrov has died on 69-m to year of life from a long illness.
