Director of Tauric Chersonesos announced an agreement with the Church

Museum-reserve “Chersonese” reached with the Simferopol and Crimean diocese of the UOC (MP) of the special agreement on cooperation in economic and other matters. It is reported TASS with reference to Director of “Chersonese” – Svetlana Melnikova.

“The current situation allows us absolutely to live peacefully with the diocese, we have recently signed an agreement expressing all our joint actions and economic, and intellectual nature,” — said Melnikov. According to her, the staff of the Museum and the Church there is no conflict.

The Director noted that the Church has the right to request the transfer of religious sites, but only in the case of providing the Museum premises, corresponding to all requirements. At the moment, she said, there are none.

In January the Simferopol and Crimean diocese of the UOC (MP) expressed willingness to compromise on the future of the Museum-reserve “Chersonese”. In particular, in the Church talked about the possibility of “joint use” facilities.

“Chersonese” archaeological monument, Museum and research center. It consists of an ancient settlement, areas of agricultural districts, the so-called choirs and medieval fortress Cembalo and Kalamita. In 2013, he was listed as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO.
