Georgian citizens can travel to Europe without visas since late March
Moscow. 27 Feb. INTERFAX.RU — IN the European Union appreciates the efforts of the Georgian authorities aimed at carrying out serious reforms, said on Monday in Tbilisi the representative of the European Commission for migration, home Affairs and citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
“The citizens of Georgia can benefit from short-term visa-free travel to the Schengen area since the end of March,” said Avramopoulos.
He spent in Tbilisi a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The sides discussed issues related to the liberalization of the visa regime, and stressed the importance of this decision from the point of view of rapprochement of the Republic with Europe.
After the meeting, the Secretary of the President of Georgia on issues of international relations Tengiz pkhaladze stated that Georgia moved to the final stage of visa regime liberalization, which involves the final design of this solution.
Meanwhile, the EU Council approved on Monday a mechanism to suspend visa-free regime for citizens of some countries outside the EU.
It is noted that the adoption of new rules eases the way for the introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of Georgia, Ukraine, Turkey and Kosovo
