The Iraqi army took control of Mosul airport

Iraqi government forces took full control of Mosul airport and a nearby military camp, located in a controlled terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia) the Western part of the city. This was announced on Friday, February 24, in command of the operation to attack, reports TASS.

As noted, the sweep of the air port from is militants has been completed. After the liberation of the airport, government forces entered the city blocks in the West, where they began the battle with extremists.

February 23 it was reported that the Iraqi security forces supported by the international coalition started the attack on the airport of Mosul, and camp al-Ghazlani.

About the beginning of the attack on Western Mosul announced on 19 February, the Prime Minister of Iraq Haidar al-Abadi. According to him, the priority task is to rescue from the hands of terrorists civilians.

On 18 January military completely liberated the Eastern part of the city.

Ground military operation to liberate Mosul began on 17 October 2016. It involved units of the regular Iraqi army, the Kurdish militias and groups of volunteers, air and artillery support by the international coalition led by the United States.
