The Russian authorities intend to restrict the sale of alcohol-containing medicines, including valokordin and “Hawthorn”. According to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin, they can be bought in pharmacies and specialized stores in small packages, reports RIA Novosti.
“As for medicines — of course, should be sold in pharmacies and recommended by doctors — the so-called recipes (…). Why is the container in which a half-liter? I think it’s not serious. Therefore, there are limitations and packaging, and restrictions on places of sale,” — said Khloponin.
“Valokordin need 40 drops, 10 drops, 4 drops to drink, so he had some [effect], although this is not proven from a medical point of view that he has significant support, but people helps, people take it a long time ago,” he added.
According to Ministry of health of the Irkutsk region, from 17 to 22 Dec 72 people to death poisoned by bath concentrate “Hawthorn” with methyl alcohol (the label was declared ethyl). The region has introduced emergency mode. Criminal case as regards 3 articles 238 of the criminal code of Russian Federation (“Manufacture, storage, sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of safety, entailed on imprudence death of two and more persons”). Detained 13 people.
