Media reported about the dead in the first days of the operation in Syria military
Sergeant Edward Alexander Sokurov Kabardino-Balkaria were killed in the first day of operation of the Russian space forces in Syria on 1 October 2015. However, this became known only on 16 December 2016, when it was posthumously awarded the medal “For courage”.

In a press-service of the city administration, the Agency TASS confirmed that Edward Sokurov was killed in Syria. The award was presented by sister Sokurov.
“I understand that for you, for loved ones is an irreparable loss. We all take what happened as a personal grief. We are grateful to you for such a brother” — quoted TASS words of the mayor of Nalchik Arsene Alukaeva.
Also the relatives of Sergeant as a gift from the Minister of defense of Syria was transferred to the order of the Dedication of the IV degree of the Syrian Arab Republic and saber.
The Russian operation in Syria began on 30 September 2015.
