Photo of the day: a herd of domestic reindeer in the Arctic
In remote regions of the Russian Arctic reindeer herding was the main occupation of the inhabitants for many centuries.
A herd of deer in a pen in the village of Red Nenets Autonomous district. In 1990 the region was 191,5 thousand deer, and in 2000, their numbers decreased to 136.4 thousand. However, by 2010 the number of animals rose to 165,6 and continues to grow.
