Law enforcement officers are required to seek and prevent potential extremism, but raise questions as to the procedure for the survey, says the Commissioner for students ‘ rights, Artyom Khromov: “Will it be voluntary? Who will have access to this information? And most importantly — what will happen to the student if you find that he’s a potential extremist? And if it will be put in place preventive measures, what?”.
The survey can help to identify extremism, and the tendency to cross the line from sentiment to action, head of the Department of sociology of youth, Institute for social and political research (ISPR RAS) Julia Zubok: “so far, no clear methodology of the survey and how results will be used. The concern is, as the ethics of using such data is a big problem”.

In her opinion, a major role in the tendency for such sentiments play financial situation, the extremists in the environment and the mood on risk, and the level of confidence in the government and public institutions: “If this level falls, then it is necessary to sound the alarm. We understand that the media was the big story of Barbara Karaulova, but other examples abound. That day holds, good or bad, is the credibility of the government, and it is to the first person”.
Such information may go to Pro-rectors on educational work, the center “e” or FSB, says the head of the center “Sova” Alexander verkhovskiy: “There is nothing wrong to interview students. Confused how to interpreted the information. For example, the man says that he is a Muslim, follows the rituals, but to someone critical, for example to the regional mufti, then may find that he is related to underground youth structure, and it will take note of this. And he’s just critical of everything”.
Therefore, the most important questions is the interpretation of the results and of possible interest eshnikov, sums up the expert.
