In Dagestan opened a cultural and historical complex “Ahulgo” dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Caucasian war. It is stated in the letter received by edition”.ru”.
The memorial was established on the mountain Ahulgo in Untsukulsky district of the Republic where there was the main battle of the war. The memorial is an architectural ensemble, which includes the 17-meter-high signal tower and the building to house exhibition hall. There are reproductions of the panorama by Franz Rubo “the Capture of aul Ahulgo”, as well as portraits of statesmen and generals of the Caucasian war-era.
The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the Republic Ramazan Abdulatipov, state Duma deputies, public and religious figures, cultural figures.
“We need to overcome the negative effects of past conflicts and to multiply the potential of cooperation and understanding. So we decided in the mountains of Dagestan to build the first in the Caucasus memorial shared memory and a common destiny, “Ahulgo” — the site of one of the greatest and most brutal battles of the Caucasian war. It is important for us not only to open the memorial, perpetuating a common memory and destiny, but also to strengthen the unity of our Fatherland, to educate the younger generation in the spirit of the awareness of the fact that we – representatives of the United States. Here these goals and serves as this memorial,” – said Ramazan Abdulatipov.
The assault Ahulgo took place in 1839. The result of the Caucasian war (1817-1864) to Russia was annexed the mountainous areas of the North Caucasus.
