Scientists have uncovered an unusual link between alcohol and diabetes
MOSCOW, 28 Aug — RIA Novosti. Monitoring the health of the Danes has shown that regular consumption of moderate amounts of wine or beer, but not spirits, markedly reduces the likelihood of developing diabetes and related metabolic disorders, according to a paper published in the journal Diabetes.
“In the past, our colleagues noticed that moderate alcohol consumption significantly reduces the risk of diabetes in both men and women. On the other hand, alcoholism, conversely, increases the likelihood of its development and makes it as high as possible. Discrepancies in the results of these observations caused us to test how the frequency of drinking alcohol affects this relationship,” write Tolstrup Janne (Janne Tolstrup) from the University of southern Denmark in Copenhagen and her colleagues.
According to who statistics, there are 347 million diabetic patients and about every 9 out of 10 diabetics suffer from type II diabetes, resulting from the growth of the immunity of the body to insulin. 80% of diabetics live in low and middle income. By 2030 diabetes will be the seventh cause of death worldwide.
In recent years scientists have uncovered many factors that influence the development of diabetes, including the various environmental factors, intestinal microflora, and even then, how not themselves human genes and their protein “wrapper”.
It tells Tolstrup, learning all these patterns, scientists recently began to notice that the likelihood of developing diabetes is strongly influenced by the fact, whether the person drinks alcohol or not.
The first attempts to understand why this happens have led to contradictory results, forcing physicians to assume that this dependence exists only for some types of alcoholic beverages, or that it actually exists.
Tolstrup and her colleagues suggested that simultaneous positive and negative impact of alcohol on the likelihood of developing diabetes can be associated with the amount of alcohol or what brand of alcohol she prefers, and how he drinks it.
