The day before, on December 29, it became known that the United States decided to send 35 Russian diplomats and close access to two objects used by the Russian workers in new York and Maryland. What those objects are, is not specified. According to a senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, it was “a response to a campaign of harassment of American diplomats in Moscow from the Russian authorities”.

Also, US President Barack Obama imposed sanctions against Russia in connection with the alleged cyber-attacks against the electoral system. Under sanctions including the Federal security service (FSB) and Main intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the General staff of the Russian Armed forces.
