A unique supercomputer put into operation in the far East

Moscow. July 6. INTERFAX.RU Scientists of the Computing centre of far Eastern branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in Khabarovsk with the support of the Federal Agency of scientific organizations (FANO) has commissioned a unique computer system.

As reported on the website of FANO, this is the first specialized computer system of such level in Russia, which is focused on solving problems in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. It is set in the collective use Center “the data Center of Feb RAS” (VCP).

“The new supercomputer based on the latest hybrid architecture with a peak performance of 55 trillion operations per second. Its resources are focused on research and development of computer vision algorithms and image processing, and to perform numerical calculations of the core facilities users”, — stated in the message.

It is noted that increased productivity will significantly reduce the expectation of the necessary resources and accelerate the realization of numerical calculations. This will improve the efficiency of scientific research.

“For us, new equipment is not just upgrading the computing infrastructure, but also new directions of research for the entire Institute. Realizing this, we have signed cooperation agreements with two global leaders of it industry — IBM and NVIDIA that help us to learn new and modern technologies and systems” — are reported words of the Director of the Computing center Sergey Smagin.

It is specified that the Computing centre is a member of the Innovation cluster aircraft and shipbuilding Khabarovsk territory, which also includes such companies as Sukhoi Civil aircraft, Amur shipbuilding plant, Khabarovsk shipbuilding plant. The Institute plans to use the knowledge and resources to manufacture.
