WHO has called on people over 60 years of age and with underlying medical conditions to refrain from travel

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on people at risk including persons over 60 years of age, as well as persons with concomitant diseases, refrain from traveling. Such new recommendations, the WHO presented a statement, RIA Novosti reports.

“People who are unwell or at risk of developing a serious COVID-19 disease and death, including people aged 60 years and older or people with concomitant diseases (for example, heart disease, cancer and diabetes), it should be recommended to postpone the trip, “the organization said in a statement.

WHO previously said that a complete ban on international flights would not stop the spread of COVID-19. It also indicated that countries need to continue to apply an evidence-based and risk-based approach when implementing travel-related measures in line with international health regulations.

Newest strain COVID-19 B.1.1.529 was identified in South Africa, it was assigned the Greek letter “omicron” (O). Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) have recognized it as a threat.
